Swirl World Frozen Treats

Our story

Everyone told mefroyo was dead.I disagreed.

For the better part of a decade I watched self-serve frozen yogurt shops close all over Canada. People asked what I did for a living and I'd change the subject. But I'd stood behind that counter almost every day of my adult life, and I knew the concept wasn't the problem.

Before all this

I was supposed to be an architect

I grew up in Saskatoon, moved to St. Albert in Elementary school, and spent most of school struggling. I had bad eyes, ADHD, and a stubborn plan to design buildings. I made it as far as architectural technology at NAIT before I figured out that what I actually wanted was to design and build something of my own and run it my way.

I got the design half of that education anyway. Most of what you see in our stores, the labels, the signs, the artwork, I draw myself.

2013 – 2022

Ten years learning someone else's system

My start in this business was as a Menchie's franchisee. I spent the next ten years working the store almost every single day. For most of that run it was the #1 Menchie's location in Canada.

Around us, the industry was going the other way. Shops closed. Prices went up, choice went down, and customers quietly stopped coming. I didn't agree with the direction the franchise was heading, and when my agreement came up for expiry, I said, "No". I was finally ready to run things my way.

2022

So we built our own

Swirl World opened in Regina and Saskatoon in the Fall of 2022. My dad and I modified the stores with our own hands. My grandma helped us launch in Regina. My mom kept our books for years, right through the move, and she's every bit as proud of what got built as I am.

And every single member of our staff came with us. Moving the whole team over saved all of their jobs. Not one person was left behind.

The head office.Regina, all three of us

My wife Amanda has a degree in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Alberta, and she's behind the part of this you can taste: the recipes, the real ingredients, the nutrition panel on every flavour label. We built this brand together, in between a wedding and a growing family, and we still argue happily about which flavour to launch next.

Everything we'd been told we couldn't do, we did. Made in-store from raw ingredients, from our own family recipes. The biggest toppings bar in the country. Swirlberries, are our fresh strawberries hand-dipped in Belgian chocolate. Fair prices you can count on, from a shop that would rather earn the next store than squeeze this one.

Flavours with passports

Globe trot with our flavours

I love travelling and learning about the world around us. Our world flavours aren't a marketing theme. They're souvenirs.

  • Thai Mango

A street vendor in Thailand, a paper bag of mango, and easily the best thing I ate that year.

  • Dubai Chocolate

From the trip where Amanda and I got engaged. That one's on the menu for a reason.

  • Limoncello

Gelato shop after gelato shop, the whole way down Italy. Research, obviously.

  • Passionfruit

The welcome drink at a hotel in Bali. That started my lifelong obsession with passionfruit.

2024

Kelowna, in two days flat

My aunt spotted a post from a local frozen yogurt shop announcing it was closing. I was in the car within two days. The space was in beautiful shape, so we bought it, the equipment, the fit-out, all of it, rather than watch another one go dark.

That's three shops now, and three of them are rooms where somebody else's frozen yogurt store had already given up. Everyone else left the field. It felt a little like these places were waiting for us.

What we'll never do

Some promises we're happy to put in writing

When a shop answers to a distant head office or an investment fund, the decisions leave town, and eventually so does everything that made it worth walking into. We'd rather stay small enough to know our regulars' orders.

The people in the shop

About twenty-five of us, three stores, one very good job

Erika started with us in Regina in 2015, as a regular employee. It was her first job in Canada. She came over with the rest of the Regina team in 2022, earned her bookkeeping diploma while working, and today she's second-in-command: our store manager and our bookkeeper.

Preet joined Saskatoon in 2023 and has quietly become essential to the whole company. His role keeps growing, and every time we hand him something bigger he makes it look easy.

Kerrianne took over Kelowna in 2025 and has made that shop her own. She places great care into the store and is among the most genuine people I know.

Giving back

The froyo that pays for the team bus

Nobody handed us our fundraising program. We invented it behind the counter, years before Swirl World existed, because a school asked if we could help. It grew every year, moved across with us in 2022, and now runs in all three cities.

This is the part of owning three shops that I'd never trade. We can say yes to a local team the same day they ask, because our family puts community first. We're passionate about giving back to the community who supports us.

What's next

One more city, when it's the right one

We're still looking for the right fourth city, somewhere in western Canada. It'll happen when it happens.

Fair questions

Tap a question to open the answer.

Do you serve ice cream?

We serve premium soft-serve frozen yogurt and real-fruit sorbet — swirled fresh from the machine, with 80+ toppings to pile on. It's not ice cream, but it's everything a sundae should be.

What is the difference between frozen yogurt and ice cream?

Frozen yogurt is made with cultured dairy rather than cream — ours is made in-store from raw ingredients, with 100% Canadian dairy, live and active cultures, and no high-fructose corn syrup. Real nutrition numbers are printed on every flavour label, per 100 g.

Where are your stores?

Three shops: Regina (4-1010 Pasqua St N), Saskatoon (4-1701 8 St E) and Kelowna (103-3030 Pandosy Street). Each store's page has hours, directions and today's flavours.

Is Swirl World nut-free?

No. We are an open kitchen and we handle peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, soy and wheat/gluten — we cannot guarantee that any of our products are 100% free from any specific allergen. Nut-containing flavours are labelled, and our Allergen & Dietary Guide explains how we handle allergens and what our team can do when you tell us about an allergy before ordering.

Do you have vegan, dairy-free or gluten-free options?

Yes — labelled options at every store. Our sorbet base is completely free of animal products, vegan flavours run on designated vegan-only machines, and flavours containing gluten, egg or soy are labelled. Always labelled options, never a guarantee — the Allergen & Dietary Guide has the details.

How does pay-by-weight work?

Grab a cup, swirl as much or as little as you like, top it from the bar, and the scale settles it at the till — you pay for exactly the cup you built.

Do you deliver?

Yes — SkipTheDishes delivers from all three stores, and scheduled catering deliveries come straight to your event.

Can you cater an event or help with a fundraiser?

Both. Catering brings a boxed sundae bar to parties of 25 or more, and our fundraising program supplies sealed 5-oz cups for schools, teams and non-profits to resell.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes — physical gift cards in $10 and $20, sold and redeemed in store.

What exactly is a self-serve sundae bar?

Grab a cup, swirl your own premium frozen yogurt or real-fruit sorbet, build it up at the toppings bar, and pay by weight. Everything on the machines is made in-store from raw ingredients, with 100% Canadian dairy, live and active cultures, and no high-fructose corn syrup. Flavours rotate constantly — see what's swirling today in Regina, Saskatoon or Kelowna.

Can I bring my dog?

Swirl World Frozen Treats welcomes well-behaved canine companions, and Service Dogs are welcome at all times — please read the full Pet Policy before you visit.
